Imagine, the 16th century, the time of the great discoveries, the conquistadors sent by Antonio de Mendoza, the viceroy of New Spain, progress with difficulty in a forest of altitude of the New World, in a country which is unknown and hostile to them. They are in search of the legendary seven golden cities.
Suddenly, it is not great cities covered with gold, but an unimaginable landscape that stretches out before their eyes, an immense wound in the flesh of the Earth, as far as the eye can see, going back to the night of time. Faced with this impassable abyss, they gave up and left without having satisfied their destructive thirst for gold. Were they aware that Nature was revealing to them one of her most impressive treasures, much better than cities covered with gold. Today world heritage of the humanity, man does not see there any more the famous cities, but temples recalling other beliefs: Isis, Osiris, Thor, Jupiter, Venus...
For this photograph, in front of the majesty of this landscape, I chose simplicity with a vast panorama filling the whole image, without foreground or sky. The weather helped me with a rainy and overcast sky allowing to highlight all the subtle nuances of ochres and reds of this wonder.
