Millenium Forest

For several years I'd had an image in my head, of giant trees, lined up in a row, filling the field of vision, like a powerful call from the forest, until that day when ..... after six hours walking in the snow, finally the vision I'd dreamt of so long ago appeared to me. A battalion of thousand-year-old guardians stands there, straight up into the sky. It is both a protective fortress behind which you feel sheltered and such a powerful manifestation of Nature that it draws you towards the heavens. The direct afternoon sunlight, however, produced contrasts that were too harsh to create the right impression. I decided to come back the following night before daybreak to capture the first light of dawn, creating a soft glow that magnifies the colour of the trunks and vegetation and contributes to the feeling of fulfilment at the foot of these robust giants.
